About Porcelain Dental Crowns
Although there are a variety of crowns available, our practice serving Houston and Harris County uses only porcelain dental crowns. We do so for a number of reasons. For one, porcelain is stronger than metal, so crowns made from it last longer. Additionally, porcelain dental crowns can be matched to the exact color of your natural teeth, which makes them undetectable in the mouth. They are also comfortable and natural-feeling. The Procedure
Dental crowns can be applied in two visits. First, we need to prepare your tooth by removing any decay. Then, an impression of your tooth needs to be made. This mold will be used to fashion a porcelain crown that will match the exact specifications of your tooth. Because the manufacturing process takes a few weeks, a temporary dental crown will be placed during the initial visit to protect the remaining tooth structure. At your second visit, Dr. Kelly LeBlanc will cement the new crown into place. Porcelain dental crowns are considered permanent and should not need to be removed or replaced unless your natural tooth becomes infected.
